Painting TimeAugust - December 2022
This course was my first painting class ever and my first art class at college. For my final project, I spent 3 weeks painting a representation of scene I saw outside of my freshman year dorm: an eagle diving down and eating a live squirrel.
Painting Time is a course in observational painting, and pairs technical exercises with conceptual ideas that explore how painting holds time both metaphorically and within the process of creating a work. On Mondays the course meets for 4 hours and this longer meeting time allows us to work on site at a variety of outdoor locations. We will address the figure during the second half of the semester, questioning the notion of “observation” as it relates to the experience of embodiment.
